D & D Custom Homes has made a committment to building new homes to the "ENERGY STAR" specifications.
ENERGY STAR is the government-backed program that helps us all save money and protect our environment with energy-efficient products and practices. Whether you are looking to replace old appliances, remodel your home, or buy a new house, ENERGY STAR can help. More than 60 types of products, including appliances, televisions, computers, heating and cooling equipment, and even new homes can earn the government's ENERGY STAR label. ENERGY STAR also offers best-practice solutions to make your home more comfortable and reduce your energy costs.
An ENERGY STAR home uses less energy (Electric and Gas) to heat and cool your home. This will save you money each and every month as long as you own your ENERGY STAR home.
All ENERGY STAR homes are rated and receive a HERS Score. This score represents the percentage of energy that your home will use compared to a home built to the 2006 IECC Model Energy Code. For example if your home scored a 70 that would mean that your home would use 30% less energy than a home just built to the 2006 code requirements. A home built prior to the implementation of the 2006 code could score anywhere from 200 to 300 meaning that this home uses 200 to 300% of the allowed energy under the 2006 code. This is commonly referred to as the cost to operate your home.
